| Baby Nursery - A Room Fit for a Prince or Princess Ah, the baby nursery! A place where you bring home your little prince or princess, and lay them quietly to sleep. And don't they fit so well into the nursery you've designed? You spent hours picking out patterns, putting up wallpaper or painting walls, installing curtains or blinds, laying down carpet. And then you had to decide on the furniture. So you spent more hours shopping for just the right pieces that would add to the theme of your baby's nursery. And when you were done, you grinned with satisfaction as you saw the manifestation of the vision you had when you first started. Designing and setting up your baby nursery can be a huge undertaking, especially when Mom has to get lots of rest while her baby's growing inside her. But you got through it. You did it! And now it's just the way you'd pictured it. What a great feeling! Baby nursery themes Looking back, when you first found out you were going to have a baby, the wheels immediately started turning, thinking exactly what you'd like the nursery to look like. You had baby nursery ideas coming at you from every direction. Wherever you turned, you'd see something that would like "just right" in the nursery. And that's how baby nurseries start. You've chosen in your mind one of a number of general baby nursery themes, and you've built up from that. First you had to narrow your ideas down to one specific theme. What would it be? Would you go with one of the more popular storybook themes, like Winnie the Pooh or Peter Rabbit? Or would you choose a TV favorite, like Elmo from Sesame Street? Or you could go with a nursery rhyme theme, like Old MacDonald, complete with farm animals and ducks and chickens, all gathering around the barnyard. Or would it be better to use a Disney theme, with Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck and Goofy? There are so many choices, and it's very hard to decide when you don't even know if your baby's going to be a boy or a girl. Maybe that's why many parents these days are having an ultrasound, so they can find out their baby's gender ahead of time and plan accordingly. But as soon as you know, then away you go, with baby nursery decorating ideas flying all over the place. If it's a boy, you might want a cowboy theme, or a jungle theme, or maybe even a frog and insect theme. There are so many possibilities! And if it's a girl, maybe you'll go with a fairy theme, or a Precious Moments theme. Oh boy - how are you going to decide?! But in the end, you usually go with what your heart tells you. After all, it's the love in your heart that's connected to your baby, so perhaps the little darling is communicating with you already. Imagine - your baby's making requests of you before it's even born! But you'll know when you've chosen the right theme. It's sort of like a mother's instinct - you just know! Next is the walls and floors Now that you've finally decided on a theme, now the next step of fun starts - finding nursery bedding, curtains, wallpaper - all the things you'll need to accessorize and blend in with your theme. And again, there's so much to choose from! The best way to go about it is to start with the walls and work inwards. So you want to find a baby nursery wallpaper - something cute, but relevant to your theme. The quickest way to search through the hundreds of nursery wallpaper designs is to do it on the Internet. Online baby nursery sites will have all kinds of patterns for you to choose from. And you don't have to go traipsing around the city to do it. As you're looking for your wallpaper, make sure you check out the wall decor - very unique and different designs to complement your theme. So now you've got your baby nursery wallpaper picked out, it's time to choose a nice soft carpet to match, if indeed you're going with carpet at all. Many parents like to have carpet because they're probably going to be spending many hours walking back and forth, up and down, in the nursery, getting their precious little bundle to sleep. Carpet also softens and muffles any noise from the rest of the house, so as not to disturb your baby's nap. After all, isn't that when poor Mom gets her nap? She's earned it! To complete the walls and floors, you'll need matching curtains. Some parents like the convenience of blinds, and that's ok, as long as the crib is going to be well out of reach. As your baby grows and starts standing up in the crib, you need to keep the cords where they can't get them. There have been some tragic results with babies getting hold of those cords and strangling themselves. Now it's time for the nursery furniture Choosing baby nursery furniture can be lots of fun. They have some pretty cool designs these days. If you're looking for a change from the traditional rectangular crib, for example, then perhaps you should look at the square crib for babies. And if you want to go a step further, then maybe you should decide on the great new round cribs. Round baby cribs are the latest in furniture fashion. And they're convenient, too. You can reach your baby from anywhere, without having to walk around the crib. Very innovative, don't you think? Anything to save Mom a few steps! Again, if you check out the Internet, you'll find some wonderful deals on baby furniture and accessories, including nursery decor. And there's a full line of cute little knick-knacks and figurines to place around the room, too. You'll probably be looking at other nursery furniture items, too, like a changing table, and a chest of drawers - all matching your color scheme and theme. And don't forget that rocking chair for those late nights of singing lullabies to your little bundle of joy. The crib bedding is the finishing touch By now, you've probably decided exactly what style and color of baby bedding you'll be getting. And you may even know what fabric you want, like cotton or flannel. And you'll definitely find all the selection you need of that online, as well. And that's about it. As you step back and admire your interior design work, you know you'll be spending many hours in your baby nursery - some of them joyous, some of them anxious, but all of them loving. And that's the best theme of all, isn't it? About the Author Arlene Martell is a successful freelance writer offering guidance and suggestions for a variety of baby product ideas and services.
